When the new courthouse was opened in 1998, the old 1958 courthouse was declared "surplus" and slated for sale and disposal. The Douglas County Tourism and History Commission persuaded the Board of Commissioners to save the building because of its unique architectural style. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
The Old Courthouse now houses the
Douglas County Museum of History and Art.
The Douglas County Museum and the Visitor Information Center is open Wednesday - Friday, 10 a.m. - 5 p.m., and Saturdays, 10 a.m. - 3 p.m.
Groups of 10 or more wishing to tour the Museum are requested to call ahead for a reservation. Admission is always free, however donations are appreciated!
